I wish I could make it to the service, but I will have to content myself with writing on this site instead.

Thomas was always the "greek god" in high school: all of us girls had crushes on him. much later, when Thomas and I started living together and got engaged, I couldn't believe my luck. I was going to marry the Greek god!

well, the best laid plans of mice and men, as they say...the marriage never took place, and Thomas moved to SF and started the next chapter of his life.

one of the last times I saw him was when I took my 16-year-old daughter Lizzy to California, and we spent a day with Thomas. he drove us madly through the SF streets in one of the battered Peugeots he preferred, talking the whole time, looking back at Lizzy, gesturing with his omnipresent cigarette.

he took us to the tide pools and we explored together, and he and Lizzy laughed at me when I broke my sandal and had to hop around on the rocks.

later that nite, Lizzy said to me, "I wish you would have married HIM, Mom!" she was betwitched, as so many young girls have been, as I was, by his intelligence and humor and just plain gorgeousness.
